Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela
Educational Philosophy
As an educator, my number one priority will be my students. In my classrooms, students will grow both academically and socially while also knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment where their thoughts and ideas are valued and respected. Every child can learn and I aspire to build a classroom environment that encourages each student to grow as a whole person and that challenges them to wonder about the history of the world around them. Although not every student I encounter will continue on with a career in history, I believe that in teaching students how to think like historians, they will learn how to ask historical questions without fear of being wrong and learn to understand the importance of working with others as well as integrating different ideas to help them to ultimately find the joy of learning.
Classroom Philosophy
My classroom management philosophy is based on the principles of Marzano's Love and Logic. Marzano’s Love and Logic helps teacher to help their students know that making it through tough situations is always an option. Love and Logic focus on building relationships with students and allowing students choice, responsibility, clear expectations, logical consequences, and loving guidance, while also instilling in students an independence in their learning experiences. In my classroom students will be engaged whether that be through games, friendly controversy, questioning, and even through the tone of my voice. I believe that students excel when they know the expectations and feel safe and comfortable trying, exploring and making mistakes.
